HELP US TO MAKE DOUBLE THE DIFFERENCE IN GLOUCESTER THIS DECEMBER
Big Give Week 2-9 December 2025
Donate during the Big Give week and see it doubled!
A £10 gift becomes £20; a £100 gift, £200!
Inside this beautiful, open, welcoming Church are unique Tudor wall paintings believed to have been painted in the 1530’s. Now, nearly 500 years later, they are urgently in need of conservation if they are to survive.
Our Painting by Numbers campaign, being launched this month as part of the Big Give will help:
inspire visitors to come and see what lies inside this beautiful heritage space
ensure rare heritage is saved for future generations
keep heritage skills alive by offering young conservators’ hands-on experience
more local people to get involved with our huge activity programme
encourage donations which fund our work with some of Gloucester’s most vulnerable people
ensure we can continue as a space for culture, heritage, visitors and faith.
Every gift, however large or small, will help us meet our target of £13,500 to part fund this stunning conservation project.
And remember, during Big Give Week, all gifts are DOUBLED – even more reason to give as your gift will go further.
The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge 2025 https://donate.biggive.org/christmas-challenge-2025 aims to support small charities working to achieve societal impact across the UK. Any donations you make to our campaign via the Big Give website between 2–9 December will be doubled by the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge match fund.
We have set our fundraising target as £13,5000, which will then be match funded to reach £27,000. So, if you donate £50 our Painting by Numbers campaign will receive £100.
This will enable us to do two things: conserve these beautiful paintings and, at the same time, help twice as many people who use our spaces, including under 5’s, young families, vulnerable adults affected by loneliness, drink or drug misuse, or refugees, new to the country, who need a helping hand. They all use our spaces now and many will continue to do so over the next 12 months.
-
£180 will pay for young adults with special needs to have a Medieval music demonstration and a have-a-go session
-
£360 will provide materials for art activity workshops for these young people to find their inner creativity amongst the angels depicted on the walls
-
£450 will pay for a coach to bring pupils from a school in Gloucester where art and culture isn’t always something they can afford to take part in for a day’s visit, art sessions and then to be part of an exhibition of artwork in the Church
-
£1,800 will pay for an accessible guide to the wall paintings for those with sight loss but equally useful to everyone who wants to understand the meaning behind these Medieval religious artworks
-
£2,475 will support a young conservator to gain hands on experience - a vital part of on-the-job training which is becoming increasingly more difficult to secure.
-
£7,500 will support part of our 2-year community engagement programme of art workshops for young children and adults with special needs; talks, tours and presentations open to everyone; Medieval theatre performances and concerts, designed to bring the Tudor wall paintings to life and get Gloucester people involved
-
£10,000 will part fund the extremely skilled work of professional conservation and restoring priceless art, ensuring these treasures can survive another 500 years

What is The Big Give Christmas Appeal? The Big Give Christmas Appeal is an annual fundraising campaign where donations made during a specific period are doubled by match funding. This means your contributions can have twice the impact!
How does the match funding work? We have received £8,500 from a charitable trust to help us conserve the rare paintings. Big Give champions (supporters who are passionate about increasing philanthropic support to charities in the UK) have matched this with another £5,000. This means we need to raise £13,500 to secure the full amount we could = £27,000
The campaign will see the public’s generosity multiplied, as donations to the participating charities will be doubled by the Big Give’s Christas Charity match fund, which has been supported by generous ‘champions’, typically philanthropists, foundations or companies. It’s a simple idea – when the public donates to a charity through Big Give, we ask funders (philanthropists, foundations or corporates) to match that donation. So £50 from a member of the public becomes £100 for a good cause. Match funding is provided by a range of philanthropic organisations, called ‘Champions’ including The Reed Foundation, The Arts Council and many others.
